Our Family

2023
Digital print, found photo album

The album Our Family captures events from the beginning of the full-scale invasion and around the next year and a half. The photographs feature the artist's roommates, Ukrainian artists, family members, and people at house parties. At first, these images seem to show a carefree bohemian life, but the reality of war quickly catches up — soon everyone finds themselves in the hallway, hiding from the shelling.

This series is both a documentation for the future of everyday life during wartime and an attempt to show the process of normalization and adaptation to war, and the continuation of ‘life’ against the backdrop of catastrophe. Here, war and ruins coexist with art, love, joy, and sexuality.

The album appears as an alternative archive of war, where private life is intertwined with the reality of life in war. It preserves the memory of a local community that is suffering losses and undergoing constant transformation.
