Lucia Kagramanyan Panorama Yerevan: On Armenian Lullabies
Listening Session
Artists
Language: English.
Venue: KW Institute for Contemporary Art, 4th floor
Sonic researcher and DJ Lucia Kagramanyan presents a listening session dedicated to Armenian lullabies, drawing from the artist’s ongoing research into archival recordings and diasporic sonic histories. Through her radio project Panorama Yerevan, Kagramanyan works with materials from the Public Radio of Armenia, bringing together rare and often overlooked recordings from folk to opera, pop, and experimental music.
Focusing on lullabies from different regions of Western and Eastern Armenia, the listening session traces variations across local traditions and their reinterpretations, including recordings from the Soviet-era. These songs, historically created and transmitted by women, often function as intimate monologues, carrying expressions of everyday life, grief, and longing within their lyrics and melodic structures.
Presented with spoken context, the session unfolds as a layered listening experience in which archival material, voice, and memory intersect, situating lullabies as both personal expression and cultural record across time and displacement.
This listening session will be audio-recorded and made available for streaming via Refuge Radio.
