The Cloud Is Still Balkanized is a hybrid lecture-performance combining video, sound, and hypnotic techniques by multimedia artist Anna Ehrenstein ( 1993) and sound artist Yara Mekawei ( 1987, Kairo). Building on The Balkanization of the Cloud (2022), one of Ehrenstein’s earlier works, the performance reflects on how nation-state logics continue to reassert themselves within supposedly borderless digital infrastructures.

Revisited for this iteration, the piece returns under conditions in which the entanglement of digital platforms, propaganda, and real-time warfare has intensified, marked by the online circulation of mass violence and full-scale internet blackouts. Within a hypnosis backdrop, the visitor is positioned as both user and network, where patterns of attention, belief, and affect are understood as mutable and subject to reconfiguration.
